Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Albert Lounge Bar (The ALB)

Trendy bar / restaurant, already very busy late on a Saturday afternoon (and no doubt getting ready for a frantic evening ahead). The main room and smaller side room have light, modern furniture and decor (and there is also more space at first-floor level by the look of things, but I didn't venture up). Surprisingly, perhaps, there are two handpumps (albeit somewhat hidden away at one end of the counter) dispensing Greene King IPA and the 'house' ALB Ale (£4.00).

A trendy expensive cocktail bar! With Greed King IPA at £4 a pint, this place is definitely not for the beer drinker, especially after waiting for the barman to top up the champagne buckets with ice and prepare cocktails looking more like an ice cream sundae. My visit here was certainly just a Chesney!

Utter utter shite. A hideous trendy load of crap. Its now a tedious cocktail monstrosity. Allegedly real ale but the beer fonts are hidden to the left of the counter which sums up how crap this place is. For under the thumb blokes only. Awful.

Much much cleaner than the old Albert but all the character of a pub has been refurbed out.

Unrecognisable! Now quite upmarket, the interior has had a thorough overhaul. Cream/mushroom colour scheme, some modern art prints on the walls…and sofas! Coffee and cake now a major part of the menu. Two ales, hard to spot as they are tucked right away in the left hand corner of the bar, peeking out almost apologetically (perhaps they are cowering in fear of meeting the former patrons?). Choices were Three Tuns (good nick) and Doom Bar. Slightly dubious unstamped glass for the half (which in fairness the barmaid apologized for) though it seemed to hold the right amount regardless. Cocktails and premium keg products pushed quite hard. Cafe style seating out front and a decent rear patio area so good for sunny days. In a town well-served by quality pubs this isn’t one to make the beeline for but is a good bet for a swift one near the station as some of the other pubs nearby still hold the spirit of the old Albert within…

Had an ale in here before going on to Aberystwyth. Rough as a bag of spanners - dank, nicotine-stained and dead in its soul. To be fair, the beer (Banks Bitter and Original) was decent. However, I get the feeling that if the girl behind the bar had taken a dislike to us, we'd have been out of there quicker than Matthew Kelly was ejected from Stars In Their Eyes. Not often I've had to drink my beer whilst being harassed by a swarm of midges, they must have been drawn in by the nicotine smells. Bunch of barely drinking-age legal yoofs playing pool. I think this is how backstreet boozers used to be in my dad's day back in the 70's...dark and smoky with seats that have been gaffer-taped back into existence. You don't find 'em like this anymore. Oggwyn Great left this review about The Albert Lounge and Bar

Originally built around 1835 on part of the Towns old defences which may explain the pubs slightly angular shape , it is first mentioned as a pub in 1856 and by 1900 had capacity for holding 600 gallons of beer from its brewhouse which was kept well chilled by the damp earth in the regulary flooding cellars .
The Albert was a friendly , basic and slightly grooty boozer but has now had a major refurb into the Albert Lounge and Bar , known locally as the ALB .
On entering the bar is straight ahead , stairs to the right lead up to the large upstairs resturant , decor is in a modern style with light woods and dark seating , there are a few tables and chairs outside giving great views of the bus station ! There is a small DJ booth in the narrow angle at the pubs one end seemingly made out of old VHS cassetes.
Its badged as a cocktail bar and has an extensive cocktail list , the usual keg taps and unusualy three handpulls with Sharps Doombar , Salopian Shropshire Gold and the house beer Tunnfields ALB Which was a decent pint and good value at £2.80 , bar snacks available were Tapas style dishes available individualy or 3 for £9.
Service was good and customers on my early Saturday evening visit a good mixture of young trendies , dressed up girlies , old folks having a post shopping drink and middle aged beer hunters .
I quite liked it in here , good service and decent well priced beer , a good start to a Shrewsbury crawl

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Albert

Looked alright from the exterior, but the inside was very dated. The pub was busy when visited at lunchtime, mostly local regulars. The barman was friendly, Banks Bitter and Banks Mild only.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Albert

Big corner pub, white rendered. The interior was an open plan room and was a very spit and sawdust kind of place, playing music on bit on the loud side to be honest.

Basic 4 tap kind of place with not real ale, saved by the fact that at least they served Banks's MILD smooth.

Again, its just a run of the mill kind of place, that with so many better places, you perhaps wouldn't bother with. People and staff were friendly enough and it had definately improved from the last time i visited a few years back.

ROB Camra left this review about The Albert Lounge and Bar

This two roomed pub has 3 handpumps on the bar but only Taylors Landlord was actually on. Not the best pint of Landlord I've ever tasted, but quite acceptable. Landlord is renowned for not travelling too well anyway. Walls have black & white pictures of rock stars/bands on them, which works well. Still a bit shabby but has had some TLC recently, new carpet or no carpet should be the next thing on the list. Someone is trying here to bring this place back to life. Give them some support.

seems to be very much a students pub these days or lovers of rock music.
