Sheffield Water Works Company (JD Wetherspoon), Sheffield

This is a large Wetherspoons Lloyds pub in a converted building. Once inside i went up a few stairs and there was a large room with the ber facing you there were four or five real ales on here and the drink i had was very nice but i car'nt remember what it was. The pub was almost empty at about 10.30 saturday morning so i grabbed a seat next to the window which looks out over the road.

Presumably named after the building in which it occupies, there were four ales were available with only the one guest (a very good Thornbridge Jaipur IPA). It's a two-tier affair inside with the upstairs area being a decent stop for a beer and cheap food during the day (provided you don't mind the sticky tables) as my window seat afforded a nice place to sit. If you're on a town crawl it probably isn't worth stopping though but it isn't too bad for a Lloyds style JDW.

Nicely appointed Lloyds No.1 on one of the main bar streets in Sheffield. There's a small 1st floor area to the left as you enter which is quiet & pleasant early on a Friday evening. Apart from that it's one large room. The bar is facing you as you enter and there were a couple of guest ales available. The pint I had was in good nick and fast, efficient service as well which was a bit of a surprise. It's OK in here early evening but I suspect it gets a lot busier later on.

Change of name

Bar like venue with 12 handpumps serving the Leeds Brewery range plus guests, including Tetley Mild, and Milestones, all I tried were in excellent condition. There is also an eclectic collection of lagers. Plain beige walls, stained boards and modern but practical furniture in one large, long room with big clear windows along one wall. More seating in a room upstairs, where there is also a room containing some brewing equipment, this may or may not be used but it is labelled “The Brewhouse”. Plainer and less designer styled than the Midnight Bell, another of Leeds Brewery's houses, but perhaps suited to its location and I presume its target demographic. Acoustic music night every second Thursday.

This Lloyds No1 Bar (J D Wetherspoon) has been renamed 'The Sheffield Waterworks Company' [edit: actioned 19/10/09]
