The Oliver Twist, Wellingborough

An attractive village boozer with a hollowed out and undistinguished interior save for two large fireplaces. The atmosphere was good on our Saturday evening visit with the local server enjoying a pint or two whilst welcoming first time visitors. On a warm evening the cold Stella was welcome and preferable to Doom Bar as the only ale option.

This pub has the appearance of a substantial family home from the outside with little in the way of pub signage and a well tendered front garden,yet with a large decking used for good weather drinking.The interior is larger than you may expect.To the left the bay window has a fitted bench below,while an inglenook fireplace has a flatscreen above.There is another inglenook to the right of the entrance with benches situated beneath while there is a seperate pool room at the back and a front snug with dining tables further to the right side. However the vibe is of a village boozer and the guv'nor and his wife acknowledged our arrival despite being off duty and drinking with the regulars.Two very attractive barmaids show that he has a keen eye when recruiting talent. Sadly a solitary pump for Doom Bar was the only ale on offer,so two rounds of Stella ensued before sloping off for a curry.Nothing here for the real ale fan.
