A man at the bar was querying with the (foreign-born) barman whether the seemingly original internal features here were merely reproduction, turning to me to confirm his view that it wasn't like this five years ago. I had to inform him that this was ... [more>]

An attractive street corner local with a bar area at the front which could almost be described as a drinking corridor, leading as it does to a snug with a real fire at the rear of the pub, separated by half screens. (Toilets are downstairs.) It was a... [more>]

I imagine this pub has changed quite a bit since the two previous reviews. It now looks like any one of similar pubs in this chain and others like it, being food oriented with a large car park. As I was here with a large group for a post-funeral part... [more>]

Handily placed for the tube, and a not unpleasant walk from the Five Bells on East End Road, where I had been attending a post-funeral party. So I called in for a contemplative pint before getting a train elsewhere. It was the pre-dinner lull, with f... [more>]

Still reasonably cheap however the handpulls have been reduced to 3. Its still has loads of tellies and the layout is still the same open plan stuff. Oh, the three handpulls all had Doom Bore clips on and its awful stuff, even by Doom Bore standards.... [more>]

This is a very pleasant pub of attractive outward appearance and retaining enough internal features to justify a listing on Camra's heritage pubs website, where a detailed description can be found. I assume that the three model aeroplanes suspended f... [more>]

Obviously more of a night time spot but open at 10 on a Sunday morning. Only real option for me amongst the row of lager was Sharps Atlantic Pale ale which was OK. Happy to have called in but not really for me.

Well presented bar more aimed at the food end but no problem popping in for a drink. Sadly no ale on when I called so I made do with a Brewdog Punk IPA. Very friendly service.

Very busy Spoons which is well described below. 4 guests alongside the usual suspects when I called - Strathaven Old Mortality, Bombardier, Silhill Hop Star and Byatts Gold. We tried the gold and the Hop Star which were both fine. Worth a visit.

Fairly standard Slug & Lettuce with no real ale. Had a quick Heineken in the interests of research. This is the site of the last public hanging in Britain - I would probably have enjoyed that more!

Small Bistro / bar next to the Golden Cross. I had a quick Brooklyn Defender IPA which was ok. Very friendly service.

Attractive looking corner pub near the cathedral. Golden Cross ale and Adnams Ghost Ship on which were fine. Worth a visit.
