The Interceptor

The Interceptor

West BromwichWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

Glass-fronted Hungry Horse in the shopping centre, which does at least have a separate bar area to one side: not unpleasant and with IPA and Abbot on handpump. The family dining side is best avoided unless you are dining with a family.
Harvester New Square

Harvester New Square

A modern plasticky thing on the edge of the pedestrianised area. The tiny bar has keg Carling, San Miguel and Stowford Press only. A pub by technical definition only.
The Sandwell

The Sandwell

West BromwichWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

A large town centre pub with one big room. Pool and darts can be found at one end and there are several large sports TV screens around, as well as an unsurprising amount of West Bromwich Albion memorabilia. Despite painted signs outside claiming 'loc... [more>]
The Billiard Hall

The Billiard Hall

West BromwichWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

Typical Wetherspoon's in a former billiard hall, of course. It has the advantage of being all at ground level (including the toilets) and the tables are not too densely packed, which gives a reasonably spacious feel. Also shows enthusiasm for beer, w... [more>]
The Chalkhill Blue

The Chalkhill Blue

A large Marston’s roadside pub, part of a modern retail estate which is still being developed, just of the A303 arterial route, which makes it very popular with grockels. No garden as such, and the views aren’t great, but there is an outside area wh... [more>]

Chipping CampdenGloucestershire

Recommended by Nick Davies

Chipping Campden became extraordinarily wealthy on the wool trade centuries ago. Nowadays it makes its money from tourism, as the number of hotels and souvenir shops shows. Most places are geared up to feeding and watering coach parties on day trip... [more>]
Bankfield Inn

Bankfield Inn

BilstonWest Midlands

Standard Marston's new build carvery on a reclaimed factory site. Predominantly aimed at diners but not unpleasant for a jar or two, and does at least serve mild. The name apparently relates to a 'spirit' which protected local miners. Draught ales we... [more>]
The Swan

The Swan

BilstonWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

Nice little traditional Banks's pub at end of town. The horseshoe-shaped room has leather perimeter seating, with darts in one corner. There are some benches outside on the pavement. Banks's Original on electric pump - the mild was not evident.
The Trumpet

The Trumpet

BilstonWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

Cosy little Holden's pub with a small stage at the back, renowned for live jazz but also offering four good Holden's ales on handpump, including Mild. The one room is decorated with numerous pictures, flyers and other memorabilia from the many bands ... [more>]

The Hole in the Wall

SE1London (Central)

Fair to say that I wouldn't have ventured into this place if it hadn't been in the Good Beer Guide 2019. But never judge a book by its cover. Two rooms - with a larger main room exactly what you would expect for a Railway Arch. Setup for sport, w... [more>]
Greyhound & Punchbowl

Greyhound & Punchbowl

BilstonWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

A glorious-looking half-timbered building, with a similarly historic interior, including a nice coal fire. Both entrances are labelled Lounge; the front bar is more of a large snug, while the left side extends off through several connected rooms with... [more>]

The Sir Henry Newbolt (JD Wetherspoon)

BilstonWest Midlands

Yet another typical small town Spoon's. One long room with a slightly art deco feel, and a small patio area at the rear, mainly used by smokers. Only a couple of guest ales supplementing the usual stuff, and nothing local, which is disappointing.
The Market Tavern

The Market Tavern

BilstonWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

A locals' pub on the main pedestrianised street amongst the shops. One long room extends backwards and upwards, with several TV screens showing sport and darts and pool at the back. Seemed fairly busy but sadly the two handpumps were unused.
The Malthouse

The Malthouse

WillenhallWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

A vast barn of a place, clearly converted from a former cinema, which itself built on the back of a maltings apparently. A comfortable feel, but the main hall is a bit vast and echo-ey, so the lower areas round the front are cosier. There is a beer g... [more>]
Cafe Metro

Cafe Metro

BilstonWest Midlands

Recommended by Graham Coombs

A café bar with a cosy armchair bit at the front, and a plainer room behind. The main feature of interest is a bank of four handpumps on the small counter serving interesting and well-kept ales. Visiting early evening, it was populated by regular loc... [more>]
