A fairly decent Wetherspoons, certainly better than some I’ve visited recently. The staff were welcoming and professional, and the atmosphere was calm and convivial. The interior is well described by others, below, and hasn’t changed much since tho... [more>]

Just behind the noted Kings Head and away enough from Aylesbury Market Square, bordering on the 'old town' area. This small pub remains as described below with bar against the right-hand wall upon entry and offering just Doom Bar from one of the thre... [more>]

Unexpected revisit. COVID meant we ended-up in the small characterful rear bar which has a traditional 1940’s feel. Four pretty samey ales on the go; Ringwood Best, Andwell King John, West Berks GoB and Hogs Back TEA (NBSS 3.5). The Rothaus is still ... [more>]

Set off the road in this sleepy village up a small embankment, the pub has an unexpectedly opened-out and modern feel to it – mint green, undressed brick etc. A laid-back Sunday vibe on my visit though the friendly Scottish barmaid did a good line in... [more>]

Fuller’s pub on the dual carriageway. Bit of a forgettable mish-mash of a place lacking any real charm, two nondescript areas either side of the bar with some noticeable damp by the window where we sat. Five pumps with three cask on from the Fuller’s... [more>]

Bit of a find, a Hop Back estate pub designed in a Swiss chalet style abutting the side of a hill and partially surrounded by mature trees. Lovely job with the flora and fauna in the front garden, looks very inviting. COVID meant we sat outside but f... [more>]

The Ocean occupies a prime spot on the seafront. It comprises of a Chip shop, bar and a coffee shop/ice cream parlour. It does cater for pretty much everything. I tried all three during my week. The bar area offers the usual lagers etc alongside Doom... [more>]

Much more of a pub feel than the Ocean up the road. Three beers on - 61 Deep, Rev James and Brains Bitter. I tried all of them and they were fine. We also ate here twice and the food was good.

As my pictures show there was no signage at all on the outside. It looked closed down as I approached but it was open. No ales on but they did have bottled Doom Bar and Atlantic Pale. I had a quick Coors and moved on.

A locals pub on the edge of town. Friendly service. They had Abbots on which was OK. Pool table.

More of a comment as it hasn't opened since the lockdown. It is due to reopen any time now but I'm afraid I missed it! I was looking forward to this pub - I shall return!

A mid-Victorian backstreet, very isolated and very basic locals' boozer, denuded of some architectural finery over the years, but home to some very fine Charrington's windows dating from the '30s, which also feature some very rare Marshall Taplow's l... [more>]

This place was refurbished, with old signage for "Charles Campbell", "Established 1840" and "Caledonian Bar" either discovered or faked. (Portland Street used to be called Caledonian Street.) A premises licence for The Caledonian Inn, 24 Portland Pla... [more>]
