As described by Blackthorn, this great little taproom is welcoming and convivial, though as is pointed out earlier, the opening hours are somewhat limited. The landlord was good company, the locals very tolerant of our pack of dogs. The beer was ex... [more>] |

Very attractive pub. 3 ales on when I called - Hobson's Old Prickly, Wye Butty and HPA. I went for the Old Prickly which was fine. All in all a decent pub, well worth a visit. |

I have to agree with Ian - an odd pub. Definitely a locals place with no decent beer. I ended up with a swift Guinness to get it ticked off. |

This is very much a pub a with unusual entry method of a buzzer once buzzed in upstairs to large open bar area with pool tables and drop down projector. Upstairs darts area. Is an obscure location for a pub but not the less a pub. |

Imposing 'Spoons-a-like banking hall conversion, with a central dome and a brightly-lit bar along the back wall (featuring a large display of wine bottles of shelves) and the small Oval Room behind. Modern furniture and restrained decor. Compact pa... [more>] |

Imposing building that has a fairly standard seating area at the front but gets narrower and very gloomy as you further back past the main servery. The best seating is upstairs, where the two partly opened-out rooms along the main frontage - joined ... [more>] |

Licensed coffee shop with simple café-style furniture, 'wine boutique' shelves on one wall, other bits and pieces opposite and a compact counter at the back. Three keg taps on the bar-back, unusually offering Brouwerij Van Steenberge's Visor (£6.30)... [more>] |

Formerly a branch of The Alchemist chain, and a bit tricky to spot as it's located a short distance up Provost Street despite the City Road address. Smart modern furniture and decoration in the front bar and rear dining areas behind the central scre... [more>] |

Very well-run little place, housed in a rather plain house-like building between the station and town centre. Functional bar with various seating options; but most people tend to sit or stand conversing near the counter. Also has a small hall to on... [more>] |

Once a traditional corner pub, but now stripped out to leave few original features then repurposed with a basic modern taproom look. Open kitchen and canteen-style furniture, but quite busy early on a NFL Sunday afternoon so many customers standing ... [more>] |

Conversion of the former public conveniences dating from the 1920s, so not an ideal layout when very busy on match days. That said, throughput of customers was well organised and the wait wasn't too painful. All the seats inside were taken or reser... [more>] |

Interesting inter-war pub built in traditional style with a Brewers' Tudor facade, set slightly oddly in a side street. Retains most of its original layout, with two separate bars and a side room to the right, dark wood-panelling and coloured glazin... [more>] |

It's a Wetherspoons. It's a station pub. You should know what to expect. That said, it is rather better than one might imagine, and usually has a good selection of cask ale too, often with one or two beers from a Sussex brewery, but featuring five... [more>] |

Quite a large pub on the south-eastern edge of the city with a partly opened-out interior that still retains a number of distinct seating and dining areas around the central island bar. Refurbished at some stage with a mix of semi-traditional and se... [more>] |
