A short walk from Bromley-by-Bow tube, this pub dates from at least the mid-19th century, to be rebuilt as an interwar-years pub, probably in the 1930s, 55 metres to the west of the original site; so not an old building then. This area has undergone ... [more>]

Visited on a wet midweek evening after 3 other pubs. As this pub used to be a stalwart of the Norwich real ale scene and a GBG regular, I was looking forward to it. The beer (Lacons Encore) was OK but the whole pub had a slightly unpleasant musty sme... [more>]

Remembered from the days when it was a GBG regular, I wasn't too disappointed with the Champion. It's quite unchanged from pevious visits some years ago and the beer, Bateman's Gold, was of good quality. It wasn't very busy though, which is disappoin... [more>]

What a tremendous pub this is. On a corner with a small amount of seating outside at the front, and the main bar area split over two levels with a raised area to the rear. There's no flashy decor, in the way one might find an old fashioned public bar... [more>]

I was just passing (honest guv!), saw the handpulls through the window and noted how busy the pub was, so I felt the need to investigate further. Lacon's Contrast black IPA was my reward, a very nice beer at a fiver a pint. The reason it was busy was... [more>]

Finally got round to visiting this excellent GBG regular, and it was well worth the effort. A good selection of ales on offer across the 10 handpumps and those I tried were of top quality and condition. It was reasonably busy for a wet midweek evenin... [more>]

The Wrens Nest seemed to have survived the prediction of its doom, with active Facebook accounts subsequent to the Covid lockdowns, but nothing posted since June 2024. A streetview image of August 2025 seems to show it as Village Grill & Desserts, wi... [more>]

What a great pub this is and probably shaved it as my Pub Of The Day on our recent crawl around Chesterfield. Cannot really add much to Mr Fastard’s review below except to confirm that the available In house Resting Devil Brewery beer that he failed ... [more>]

Always good to see a pub reclaimed, and I thought this former Chinese restaurant was now functioning as a decent pub. I could imagine that the large one roomed high ceiling internal space could lack a bit of atmosphere when there is not many in, but ... [more>]

A fairly basic bar with a pool table at the back. It all feels a bit unloved and hints at having been somewhat better in the past. A stack of empty kegs in the middle of the room didn't help and the toilet cubicle was out of use awaiting repair. Ther... [more>]

On the large side for a micro but still a nice one room bar, painted in dark green top to bottom with a strange bit of red lighting which did at least give a cosy atmosphere. The little counter in the corenr had 4 handpumps with changing ales as well... [more>]

Close to the station and the wonky church, pargeting to the parapet indicates that this was once the White Swan until 2019. The interior is largely modern, catering mainly for what would seem to be young people, the venue smelling strongly of short o... [more>]

A cosy little micro with dark painted walls and high ceilings with dangly lighting. Five handpumps with a selection of brews from Aldwark; mine was a very pleasant stout. Quite a nice atmosphere and I would happily drink here again, but I could see t... [more>]

A large and comfortable family-run pub with accommodation and its own brewery. tucked into a corner off the main road. There is one long room right across the front, with side areas off (pool one end, restaurant the other) and it is all very smartly ... [more>]
