The White Horse Inn

The White Horse Inn

TemplecombeSomerset

Recommended by E TA

A roadside pub with a village clientele which you could easily miss. There is a tiny car parking area just off the main road, from which the pub is entered by the back door adjacent to a small paved terrace with tables and umbrellas. There is also ... [more>]

The Grapes (JD Wetherspoon)

SuttonLondon (Greater)

Recommended by Malden man

One of two Wetherspoon's in Sutton town centre, this one is almost certainly a former Victorian street corner pub. It goes back a long way but is quite narrow internally, much of the seating area is up a couple of steps. The bar is fairly centrally l... [more>]

The ales here are still listed on a blackboard behind the bar, giving essential information like brewery, name, ABV and price. I didn't list them all, but there was a good selection, and I was enticed by one of my very favourites - By The Horns Diamo... [more>]

No facilities for drinkers at all in the Winter. It's not a pub.

Absolutely hammered on a Monday lunchtime and full of screaming brats. We decided to leave it. It looks just like any other lounger.

Now part of the Brunning & Price group the focus remains on food but a five-ale line-up augmented by a real cider means this is a quite a different beast to the one visited by BF in 2013. Tring Side Pocket For A Toad, TT Landlord, Truman's Docker's T... [more>]

Stumble Inn

With the total of micropubs now approaching 450 and seemingly increasing almost daily this one is something of a veteran judging by the GBG stickers on the door. I made two visits here, at around 14:00 on the Tuesday afternoon and just after midday o... [more>]

The Lord Rosebery (JD Wetherspoon)

This JDW is set in an imposing old building that was originally the Scarborough Liberal Club. Although the pub is only set on the ground and first floors of it the whole building was clad in scaffolding. I asked a member of staff if it was earmarked ... [more>]

I found myself with some time to kill between trains so I thought I would give this one a try. I got here just after 11:00 on a snowy Tuesday morning to find it fairly quiet. The famous banks of ten hand pumps on the island bar were full with just tw... [more>]

The downstairs of this place seems to have been founded in 1997 but I used to go to the upstairs bar and restaurant which I've not visited since 1987. If unchanged, it's a nice place for the type and was certainly the place to be seen in Petersfield;... [more>]
Scholar's Bar

Scholar's Bar

ScarboroughNorth Yorkshire

This bar consists of a large roughly square open plan room with a wooden floor and an area for pool and darts at the rear left. The fairly sparse furnishings were mainly of the taller variety but I managed to find a low seat and table. It wasn't that... [more>]
The Station Inn

The Station Inn

WhitbyNorth Yorkshire

As noted below, this consists of a small lounge at the front with limited seating and a larger bar at the rear. I missed out on the Station Masters Room. I opted for the small front room where an old duffer started explaining to me how this was the o... [more>]
Little Angel Inn

Little Angel Inn

WhitbyNorth Yorkshire

Recommended by Aqualung .

The Little Angel is set on a hill above Whitby. It's an open plan roughly L shaped room with a wooden floor. The CD jukebox is still there and there is a garden at the rear. Live Music, Karaoke and TV Sports are advertised but the only distraction on... [more>]

I recall this pub as being nothing special on my one visit - I wouldn't be surprised if it was then a Whitbread Beefeater. But that was in the summer of 1988 so what it's like now, I'll leave for others.
