A large estate pub in the centre of a 1960s housing estate, adjacent to the shops and car park, the sort that usually makes my heart sink when I approach, but which turned out, on this occasion, to be a pleasant surprise. There are three distinct bar areas, all served by a central counter. The first area is a comfortable carpeted public bar with dart board, jukebox and tv. In the middle of the building is an area with two pool tables, and there are tables for diners at the far side. The pub is very much a community hub, and it is won community pub awards. It is dog friendly and has free WiFi. The locals were welcoming and the staff friendly. Pub grub, pizzas and carvery-style dinners are available at a reasonable price, and there are occasional entertainment events. The pub fields not one, but two footballs teams. There were 2 ales on, both from Ringwood. I had a pint of Best which was in very good condition. Worth dropping in for a pint or a cheap meal when passing.

A small selection of beers, however these are generally of good quality. The pub has changed hands frequently over recent years, leaving the new owners with a struggle to build a good customer base. Most of the customers are good natured but, due to the location it seems impossible to avoid occasional trouble.
