The Dog and Bone is a large pub with a central bar area flanked by a dining area with carvery to the left and a public bar with pool table and jukebox to the right. The bar is stocked with standard draught and one of the five hand pumps was unused leaving Champflower, Adnams, Tribute and an offering from Wantsum. A hot and cold buffet is advertised Monday through to Saturday and Sunday is carvery day. The music was at a good volume and there was a good natured crowd in attendance.

This is one of the better pubs in the area and I would return for a few jars.

Formerly the Prince Alfred, The Dog and Bone is an old Victorian pub just off the High Street, in days gone by a favourite with famillies (it used to have a children's room) and shoppers. Now it has been brought up to date but not spoiled, and is a freehouse. It is currently a single L-shaped bar, part bare boarded and part manky carpeted, frequented by ladies wot lunch, a couple of harmless drunks and a few ale enthusiasts. A couple of unobtrusive gaming machines and a jukebox complete the picture. The staff are welcoming and hospitable, while the two resident dogs do their best to amuse. Food is simple and excellent value for money, but it does take time to arrive so patience is needed. There were 3 ales on (teh fourth pump had just finished and was in the process of being replaced), I had an excellent pint of Doncaster Toad and would have liked to stay for more. Highly recommended for a cheap lunch or inclusion in a town crawl, it's 5 minutes from the station so would also make a good pitstop.
