Much same as ETA, mine was Monday lunchtime visit, looking for a place to wee and eat, made a perfect stop for both

As already said, food led for tourists, into which slot we fitted nicely, not very busy, two other couples en route like us

No beer for us, driving, but it was standard H & W stuff available

Not cheap, but food was fine, staff, just two on, were polite and clean

There is a limited specials food board. could not spot just plain old sarnie on the menu, never asked, we went posh and had baguettes £7 each, but plenty to eat in them

Ideal wee / rest / stretch legs type of stop if needed, and unless going to museums or village itself not really a destination pub

As my esteemed colleague says below, a Hall and Woodhouse pub which has been rebuilt and has retained very little rural character despite its wooden floors and leaded windows. There is a small car park at the side and some outside seating, but the main business is the food. The majority of the bar space is taken up with tables laid for diners, although there are two sofas on one side next to the brick fireplace. The pub is child-friendly, very touristy and not terribly atmospheric. Food was over-priced, and annoyingly it wasn’t possible to have something as simple as a sandwich at 6PM because that was on the lunch menu. The staff weren’t very helpful, while the presence of a large food counter and an ice-cream cabinet in the bar makes the place feel like a works canteen. There is allegedly WiFi available, but it wasn’t working properly. Two ales on, Tanglefoot and First Call, both quite drinkable but not on top form. It’s a tourist trap, and while it’s fine to stop of when visiting the historic village, missing it wouldn’t be a huge sacrifice.

A detached Hall & Woodhouse pub and eatery, in undressed brick, cream render and leaded windows, with front patio area.

The interior is an open plan room, laid out for food mainly, with a sofa area. The decor is cream, red and grey walls - that modern light and airy look, with wood floor and some wood panel. There are a couple of brick fireplaces and a medieval looking chandelier. Most of the pictures are either ephemera to do with the Tolpuddle Martyrs, or old photos of the surrounding area. There was no music, or TV that i saw. The service was fine and there were only a couple of others in at out afternoon visit. Allegedly, this is a rebuilt pub around 1915, as the old one was demolished to make way for tanks to use the main road! not sure about that one.

Beer; tap stuff, with three Badger handpulls; Badger Bitter, Fursty Ferret and the excellent Tanglefoot.

I am not really into the modern look, but as it goes, this place is fine - many of course will love it. A more than happy stop off, i can say.
