A comfortable town pub away from the sea front so not spoiled by tourism. It's a former inn dating from Georgian times. There is a large garden at the back, lawned, with too many children's play apparatus which spoil the character and make it feel more like a nursery school than a pub. The single bar inside is L-shaped, one end principally a dining area where dogs are not permitted, the other end more basic and dog-friendly. We thought there might also be a dining room upstairs, but we weren't sure, and we didn't explore as we had the dogs with us. There is a skittle alley which can be hired as a function room. The food is basic pub grub, wholesome and reasonably priced. We arrived slightly late, but they were happy to make some sandwiches for us, and water was provided for our dogs. Three ales on, 2 from St Austell and an Otter, the latter in very good condition. Very pleased to have tried this pub and would be happy to return.

The George Inn has got quite a long frontage and it is painted white which makes the pub look quite nice from the outside.
Once inside there is one longish room that is fairly well furnished, there were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Otter Ale which was a decent drink the other beers were John Smiths bitter and Courage Directors.
There is also a large garden behind the pub.

Pub visited 23 August 2000.
