I found The Anchor quite by accident, and I'm glad I did. It's a Victorian village pub which has been refurbished recently to provide a smart, comfortable interior with a contemporary feel which is still in keeping with its history (although use of "@" instead of "at" in the name is a bit pretentious). It possibly has the poshest toilets in Dorset - there is even a basket for walking sticks. Open fires, stripped wooden floors and an open-plan feel to the main bar (there are two smaller side rooms) all make it very pleasant. It has a good range of wines and excellent food, although a bit pricey. Three ales on plus Orchard Pig cider; I had a pint of cider for a change and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth deviating from the main road to find for lunch or an evening's libation.

Antony Wells left this review about The Anchor Inn

An out of the way country pub that leans towards gastro-style but still welcomes drinkers.
The village is small and as, most like, you will arrive by car, beware that the car park is small and a little awkward.
As a destination pub the Anchor has a lot going for it. The food is, at best outstanding, at worst pretty good, although the menu can seem a little limited. If not cheap, you can easily pay more for worse in this area.
As I've said, drinkers are welcome, which make sense as apart from the locals, walkers abound. Dogs are welcome too, and there are few families with children, it just not that sort of place. The real ale is usually excellent, three or four pumps and a distinctly southwestern flavour to the selection.
All in all I'll give it 8 stars, although I am detecting a move away from the drinking only fraternity. I hope I'm wrong but only time will tell.
