Cellar bar run by the local Verdant Brewery but basically it's more a restaurant. Enter to a small ‘bar’ area with an even smaller room off left. Salmon colour plastered walls, a pitch at the Mediterranean perhaps. Seven of theirs on keg with sensible prices, though the Dunkel was a bit of a gassy nothingness. Got a random hot savoury amuse-bouche after I sat down which was very nice, so that's in its favour. But as a drinker there’s not much to recommend unless you're wanting to eat, which almost everyone else was doing. It’s a useful oddball in Falmouth’s impressive pub scene.

I'm familiar with the name Verdant from my travels around the country. But it wasn't until my recent trip to Falmouth that I'd appreciated that Verdant beers are brewed in Cornwall, just a few miles away in Penryn. In fact, I also hadn't appreciated that they have cask ales too until I visited the Cornish Bank (request made to add this bar) the previous evening.

The Verdant Seafood Bar is a tiny place run by Verdant on a narrow street leading down to the quay. We'd initially passed it on Easter Monday when it was closed, but returned to find it open the following day.

There's 3 or 4 large steps leading down to the premises, which is below street level and only has one small window providing natural light. We sat by the window and saw several sets of people gawking through the window to see what it was like inside.

Whilst there are no cask ales here, there were 7 craft beers all from Verdant - People, Money, Space, Time, Headband, Light Bulb, Munich Helles, Random Rules, Way Beyond The Long Blank & Maybe One More PSI. They are served in thirds, halves and pints (possibly two thirds also).

Also of interest is the seafood offering from a small kitchen at the rear. It is a kind of tapas offering with both small plates and slightly larger offerings. We admired the food coming out and decided to order our own along with a second beer, neither of which we had planned in advance.

It's all quite a unique offering and seems to attract a decent following and a good mixture of locals and tourists, including plenty of families, all cramming into 2 tiny rooms.

This bar appears to have opened during Covid times and appears to have been exactly the sort of premises that would have struggled with social distancing rules. Nevertheless, it has survived and just like the beer and books combo up the road in Beerwolf, I think the beer and seafood combo also works quite well in what is a thriving port town with plenty of decent drinking options.
