There's at least three trees outside...
Anyway, this is a small oblong micro sporting a fairly bland interior with the decor colours of a Soviet changing room, bar a display of the latest iteration of the alphabetti spaghetti rainbow flag. Regular seating, at least. Three cask and a cider on pump, plus four keg. Halves of Brew York's Maris (NBSS 3.5) and Hudson Rail Porter (4) slipped-down easily enough, served in good quality polycarbonate glasses (because matchday). I was unaware that restrictions that apply on Watford home games so I timed my visit well, with a good 90 minutes before kick-off. Make sure you don’t get caught out! Beer range and quality makes it worth a stop; the actual venue itself holds little of interest otherwise. GBG listed.

Lovely little micro pub ran by a nice friendly couple.Very quiet on my visit but next to Watfords ground will help when the season starts.Had a couple of beers from Pomona Island and Bad Seed.Best choice for beers in Watford i would imagine.

When the best drinking establishment in a town the size of a Watford happens to be a social club (West Herts Sports Club), you know that there's a pretty poor offering. So when planning to be in town for a football match, I noticed this new micropub, only to realise that it's on the same street as the football ground and knowing the micropubs and thousands of football fans don't make for a good combination!

As a compromise, we decided to come here for opening at 3pm on a weekday. Luckily we had the pub to ourselves at that point and could work our way through the 3 real ales and the real cider. Ales on this Wednesday were One Mile End Alphonso, Brew By Numbers #11 & Wild Beer Co. Spring Forward. The cider (also on handpull) was Artisan Ciders Talking Horse Raspberry Kick. In addition, there were 4 craft beers - Holy Goat Blood Witch, Pope's Yard Sun Spot, Time & Tide Lighthouse & Abyss The Future. A fridge in the corner at the rear has further bottled options.

There is only space for a limited number of people inside. It felt fairly full with just the 3 of us. Whilst there is also pavement seating outside, the wet weather procluded that.

Licensing regulations mean that alcohol serving has to be stopped up to 30 minutes before a kick off at Vicarage Road. It can resume after the match has started, but cannot be served after the match either. So, don't bank on too much of a session here if you do manage to get here before a football match!

Nevertheless, in a town full of rubbish pubs, this is an oasis for beer (and cider) drinkers.
