The bar, cafe and restaurant at YHA Ambleside is open to non-residents, and you don't have to be a YHA member either. The large front windows have tremendous views across the lake. The bar has three hand pumps with one beer on when I drank here but I noticed another when passing the next day. There are also four keg taps. I had Bowland Hen Harrier which was in very good condition; the barman told me they often have Loweswater Gold on. Although this is a cafe bar it is possible to find an area that is more comfortable than that implies, though I can't imagine stopping for long myself. If not actually staying at the hostel, this would be a good place to wait for the next steamer on the lake - the terminal is only one minute's walk away.
