A very comfortable pub with a choice of two rooms either side of the bar. The walls were painted in a pale green colour, large hanging black pendant lamps and a quarry tiled floor throughout and an old bicycle fixed to the wall covered in bunting flags and fairy lights. This was found in the right hand side lounge along with a short section of buttoned back banquette seating.
Six handpumps with 5 in use, Bass, Wantsum Brewery Ravening Wolf, Pentrich Hidden Verse, Milestone Shine On and one cider, which was Stans Thatchers Cheddar Valley.
Our beer was spot on and the prices were fair. We managed to down a pint before a pile of dogs from different owners turned up and the place became a Vet's waiting room. I offered one dog a biscuit off the bar, but the owners declined as the biscuits weren't gluten free. We made a sharp exit and went up to the Thorn Tree.

Fairly new bar owned by Hartshorn's and situated on a busy junction. The interior is bright and feels a little like a cafe. But it is definitely a bar.
By contrast with the previous review, all 4 real ales were from Hartshorn's with the regular Ignite supplemented by Shakademus, Full Nelson & Barley Pop. Two further handpulls had ciders - Lilley's Mango Cider & Scrumpy Wasp Amnesia.
The barmaid was friendly. I would certainly give this another go if ever in Belper again.

An odd name to choose for an odd looking building, though old photos show that it used to fit snuggly into the apex between High Street and Church Street. Established as a pub by Hartshorns Brewery, which owns a micropub and now the Peacock in Derby. I only spotted one of their beers among the six hand pumps (it was the same when I visited the Peacock later), with three guest beers and two ciders making up the numbers, and eight keg taps as well. I went for Leatherbritches Return of the King, quite strong for a bitter at 4.7% but very enjoyable. The building, despite its odd shape, is nicely presented both outside and within, where there are some art works and some domestic equipment, if memory serves. I felt that service had been a little off-hand at first, but the young woman behind the bar seemed to come alive when I said something about the music and we had a friendly discussion about acceptance of different styles across generations. A welcome addition to Belper's burgeoning beer scene.
