A biggish cocktail bar and restaurant on top of Waverley Mall reached through an obstacle course of builder’s fences from Princes Street. Low ceilinged, music filled and dark there’s an L shaped counter in the back left corner, multi level and multi type seating elsewhere. It does sell draught beer, there are two lots of four keg taps on the back walls, Guinness plus lagers, cider and I think a peach cider as well, obviously the cask being smuggled was a whisky one. One positive note is the view of the back of the Old Town, and perhaps less enticing of Waverley Station roof.

I didn’t venture inside the Cask Smugglers because I was sitting outside in the Festival Village which includes two Cask Smugglers bars and some small food vendor outlets selling burgers, pizza and toasties. A stage area at the rear had a guitar player strumming away to generate a cheerful atmosphere. Standard keg was available, I went for a Tennents which I was starting to get a taste for.
