Part of a camping and caravaning park, and keeps cafe hours (9am to 9pm), but does serve real ale and welcomes "walkers, cyclists, runners and dogs (if accompanied by well-behaved owners!!) whatever the weather and the state of your boots or paws", according to their website. I was here for a couple of days, trying out my new tent. On each night I went to the bar and had a beer - others were eating but I was happy enough with my pint of local real ale, served from a solitary hand pump. On the first night it was local Dark Horse Hetton Pale, on the second Bowland Harvest Moon. Beers were in very good condition on both occasions, and at £3.20 a pint, very reasonable for the area. (At the Thwaites pub in the main village across the river it's £3.90 a pint.) Other beers, represented by a collection of pump clips on the bar back, have come from Beer Monkey (Skipton), Three Peaks (Settle) and Kirkby Lonsdale. This is a new stone building which also functions as the reception for the camping and caravan site, a very smart and modern development. The much older Knight Stainforth Hall stands back from all this modernity. The view across the valley is very pleasant, and a short walk down the road to the left of the caravan park leads to a very narrow bridge over the Ribble just above where it plunges spectacularly over Stainforth Falls. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and the cafe bar stays open as long as there are people still drinking, though the kitchen closes at 9pm.
