A so-so town micro. Absolutely crammed inside with tables, so we resorted to the charmless front lean-to in the pedestrianised street outside. Cask at £5 (keg £5.50) didn't really add to the attraction. The beer was fine, but Drummer's is not really one of the best examples of the micropub genre. In a town awash with pubs, you can do better.

Standard micro in an upmarket little precinct. Gloomy, cluttered and uncomfortable when I popped in early evening, it’s over-crammed with tables and seats. Two pumps both serving up dark beers at surprisingly hefty prices, I plumped for a Little Ox Dark & Seedy vanilla stout (NBSS 3). Also noted a further five ales on keg. Maybe I timed my visit badly, but I didn’t much enjoy it.

Oxfordshire's latest micropub, opened in mid-August in former charity shop premises, this is the brainchild of local brewery OXBREW, based in nearby Enstone. A boxy room with a small bar against the rear wall offering two cask ales - their own Red Ale and a collaboration with Tap Social, a coffee bean stout called Bean Counter. Six keg taps with three of their offerings, one from XT, one from Tap Social and one from Loose Cannon. Local bottled beer is available (they are part of the Oxford Brewers Alliance, started by Hook Norton, which consists of a dozen or so breweries) as well as bottled ciders, soft drinks, wine and local gin and vodka. A popcorn machine to the right of the bar produces salted popcorn which is handed out to customers in small plastic cups for free. Trojan reggae music played in the background, but not to the detriment of conversation and the owners were happy to talk about their journey (they have been in operation for only two years!) Live music, a quiz night and further events are planned, and although a little sterile inside, this is another welcome addition to this burgeoning scene.
