Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Cornerhouse

Branding itself as a 'Dine - Drink - Dance' establishment, this has various seating / dining areas around a double-sided central servery. All very modern inside, slightly at odds with the arcaded heritage exterior on two sides of this corner building, but definitely better done that most All Bar Ones and similar establishments. Not altogether sure where the 'Dance' bit fits in, although that must be either up or downstairs, but in any case this is probably academic in the current circumstances... Still, it does do real ale, with Bowness Bay's Fell Walker (£3.20) being one five beers available from a total of seven handpumps.

seriously swanky upmarket bar with staff walking around in aprons! if it wasn’t for the eight real ales I would never come somewhere like this but in fairness the beer is good. Loads of seating areas including booths for privacy. the (Italian I think) restaurant is on the other side behind the bar. Nice place for a swift pint even if it isn’t exactly a pub.

The Cornerhouse is in part of the building which I remember as the Co-op department store when I lived in Lancaster in the late 70s. It has an entrance in New Street and a side door in Church Street; the New Street side also has pavement furniture, giving it the feel of a Parisian cafe. Inside, it's more like a boudoir, with mirrors, private booths and turquoise chair backs all hinting at something more decadent than the reality. The bar counter is normal enough, with eight hand pumps and the barman pulling through the beers and checking that the correct pump clips had been placed on them. Having recently drunk Kirkby Lonsdale Stanleys and being familiar with Hawkshead Windermere Pale I was able to help him out before taking my half of Kirkby Lonsdale Monumental to sit looking out onto Montmartre, or wherever I had been transponded to. There appears to be a dining room or separate bistro, which may have been brought here (by the same matter transponder) from Rome, to judge by the menu and the accent of the maitre d'. However, joking aside, I found this place to be well run, the beers (I tasted three) in good nick, and the prices quite a bit cheaper than in the Borough, the Sun and in Merchants 1688 on the same day.
