Attracted by the prominent "Good Beer" A-board outside, I ventured in to find a characterful craft bar which manages to carry off the industrial feel, brightened by some pop art prints. There are two levels inside, with a tiny bar, while the outside seating area is in a pretty squalid corner off the street but is there nonetheless. A fair range of craft beers were on tap - as pricey as you might expect but at least in very good nick. Not an unpleasant place.

Part of a small chain of South London craft beer bars,this is a friendly place on Surrey Street Market and near the steps to the High Street.There is some external seating and you enter into a split level interior with an industrial feel,accentuated by the use of metal mesh frames to define the two internal areas.The bar is to your left and has 10 wall mounted taps,fridges complete the beer range while artisan gins and spirits are also available.Opposite the bar is a drinking ledge with high stools then a descent to a lower seating area with a long bench seat and a high drinking shelf below which are comfy chairs.Large industrial pipes give off some heating ,there is a flatscreen on the wall showing Six Nations rugby on my visit and various art work displayed on the tall walls.It's all quite hip and chic and may refelect to slow gentrification that is taking place locally .However Surrey Street is still an earthy place ,and Croydon late at night can be challenging.
The keg choice will always include an Inkspot brew as these businesses are linked.A sparkling cider will be accompanied by 9 rotating craft beers from the likes of New Bristol Beer Factory,Park Brewery,Old Street Brewery,Brew by Numbers,Beak,Bianca Road and Howling Hops. My Ansbach & Hobday London Black was neither too cold nor overcarbonated and was very decent for £5.A van operated by Dragon Flame offering street food outside was advertised inside,so I guess you can bring their offerings inside to consume.
This is a valid addition to the Croydon drinking scene ,I enjoyed my trip and would return despite the core audience being hipsters,there just aren't that many in CR0 !

Heading up the steps from the Dog & Bull towards the Spreadeagle, we noticed this craft beer pub on a corner and similar to the previous reviewer, we decided to give it a try.
This is a modern bar spread over a couple of levels, with the bar on the higher level. Once again, we were the only customers, but the barman/owner was friendly and happy to chat.
Whilst there was no sign of any handpulls or cask ales, the craft beer selection was decent - New Bristol What Time Is Love, Saltaire Triple Choc, Top Rope American Dream, First Chop Brewing Arm USA, Park The Art of Surrey Street, Omnipollo Dank Dank Dank, Anspach & Hobday The Passion Fruit Sour & London Black & Laine Neon Angel. In addition, there was a cider. This was St Ives Godrevy Gold, a new one for me.
Not a bad impromptu addition to our crawl.
