As I remembered - it's still a cosy traditional place with a friendly welcome. 1980s plush - carpet, curtains, wallpaper etc with red as the predominant colour. Royals past and present on the walls. Four cask; TTL, Doom Bar, Dartmoor Jail and a super St Austell Tribute (NBSS 4). Whilst the beer range might be a bit ‘safe’ for these parts it’s kept well and frankly that’s what really matters these days. GBG’23 listed. 8.5

Nice-looking building which interestingly isn't that old - the original was bombed by the Luftwaffe and this structure dates from the mid-1960s. A nice stained glass entry door leads to a comfy (and thankfully warm!) bar with a red pub carpet, retro wallpaper, mint colour scheme, red curtains, divided banquettes and a nice stained (plastic, not glass, I think) flyover on the bar gantry - so not a huge amount of change here over the years. Four ales on, a fairly safe selection of Otter, Jail Ale, Doom Bar and Tribute. The Otter was in decent shape. Calmer and less frantic here than some of the other nearby pubs. I’d be happy to do this one again if I find myself back amongst the Janners. Rated 7.5

The Queens Arms is a single room red carpeted pub with a bar on the right wall and banquette seating either side of the entrance, in the front right corner and up the left wall. The four handpumps on the bar were drawing St Austell Tribute, Sharp’s Doom Bar, TT Landlord and Dartmoor Brewery’s Jail Ale; not a very interesting selection for these parts. There is also a standard keg range.
There is live music advertised for every Sunday evening, which I imagine is singers rather than bands in this small pub. There was some background music playing during my Tuesday afternoon visit and the young barman was very polite. This is a decent pub for a few quiet beers.

Previously The Plymouth Arms, the original 19th Century building was destroyed in the Second World War and rebuilt in the 1960s. Much as described by Blackthorn, below, this town centre pub is welcoming and functional in equal measure.  Four ales on were Doombar, Tribute, Salcombe Shingle Bay and Jail Ale, all in decent condition. It was quiet, and that was a good thing.  I’d be very happy to return here for a longer session.
