Real Ale Ray left this review about Caught & Bowled

This former newsagents has been a family business for over 30 years, with the owner's two sons now running the micropub. We met one of the brothers who was most welcoming and chatty and was proud to show us the wall mounted photos of his brother, playing cricket for England and Notts County. He also immediately recommended the Bluebird Blueberry Pale, from the Lenton Lane Brewery, which was excellent and two pints easily slipped down. This seems to be a regular beer as the pub's name Caught and Bowled has been added to the pump clip. Another enjoyable beer I tried was the Black Iris Bajan Breakfast, which was an oatmeal beer, whilst Mrs Ale went for the Oakham Citra Session Pale Ale. The locals were also friendly and chatty. I'd have no problem revisiting here.

This micropub came about as a direct consequence of the Co-Op opening an outlet nearby and the resultant collapse of the newsagent's trade. Given all the Greene King dross in this area after their takeover of the local brewery in 2006 it's a very welcome addition. Maybe that's one reason why so many micropubs have started up in this area.
The old shop has been converted and modernised to a very high standard (as they say on daytime TV). It's long and narrow with a bar counter on the immediate right. There is a TV screen at the rear but it was turned off. There is no music or other noisy distractions.
All five hand pumps were in use and had Thornbridge Jaipur, Shiny 4 Wood, Oakham Bishops Farewell, Black Iris Bajan Breakfast and something I wrote down as Felton Lane Bluebird. The Jaipur (£3.60) was excellent and I would happily return.

The Caught and Bowled is Gitbrooks newest pub in an area now surrounded by micro pubs. This forms part of a nice little crawl and was one of the stop offs of one of our most recent. It is a former newsagent so is one tight, compact narrow room with the bar on the right hand side as you enter. This place I hear is run by Nottinghamshire and England Cricket Player Samit Patel’s dad.
On my previous two visits I have enjoyed Black iris Snake Eyes at a very competitive price of £2.90 and kept in top condition. This was one of five possible beers and Black iris frequently features as well as other Nottingham micros and some of the better regionals such as Timothy Taylor and Titanic. I agree with Will about the sound, it really could do with a few more soft furnishings and it does get incredibly loud and does seem a bit cold hard and bare at the moment but given time I think it will acquire a bit more character. My only gripe is we visited on an unusually hot and sunny day in April and outside the main entrance is a small standing area fenced off from the pavement for smokers yet drinks could not be taken and drank in this space so people melted inside. Less of the pubs policy than the local councils but it was still a bit annoying none the less. Overall a great little addition to the Giltbrook pub scene and one I will now frequently stop off at when dong the rounds in the Kimberly/Giltbrooke/Eastwood Area.
