Still very much as described below. Of an evening it is a bit on the dark side, with arty electric lamps casting a glow and adding to the laid back feel. The rustic bar counter boasts various crafty things on keg, but sadly appears to have followed the general trend of the chain in removing cask ale.

A relatively recent opening from this expanding chain, it looks quite appealing as you walk past with large bi-folding doors that go completely out of sight, opening up the front of the pub where there were some leather armchairs. Impossible not to notice as you walk past, and very tempting to pop in. Once you do get in, it’s considerably bigger than might be expected, with a long bar, a good sized restaurant beyond this and then a courtyard garden right at the back.

Décor wise it’s probably best described as shabby chic with plenty of reclaimed boards on the floor, ceiling and even cladding the bar counter. Opposite the bar is a long row of tall tables, while the restaurant area had a mosaic tiled floor and a freestanding brick chimney breast in the middle which made a bit of a feature, although I thought having the gas fire lit on a warm and sunny summer’s afternoon was probably a little unnecessary.

Beers on tap were the local Rebellion Smuggler and Mad Squirrel Hopfest. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure if these were cask or keg though. The pump clips suggested that they might be cask, but they were dispensed from two fake barrels fixed in to the shelving behind the bar, so I suspect maybe not. The solitary cider was Aspall’s Harry Sparrow, which to be fair was better than I remember it, and certainly much better than it’s Suffolk sibling. Barman was friendly enough, but prices seemed expensive though with a pint of the cider and a G&T coming in at something over £11. And for that we got a dirty glass for the cider and a small dumpy glass for the G&T that would only accommodate about half the tonic!
