Housed in an old Grade 2 listed Corn Warehouse, The House of Grain is a split-level bar / restaurant with the bar on the ground floor and then a restaurant section on the upper floor reached by a spiral metal staircase. Although the decor is modern it does reflect some of the history of the building with its tiled floor and walls and period wood & metal fixtures.
When it opened in mid 2017 this craft and cask beer bar had the 10 tap wall on the back of the serving area and four ale hand pumps on the front of the bar. This is now down to two ale pumps and for our visit only one of these was in operation, with Salopian Oracle at £3.50 a pint, so I guess the main target demographic for this one is more interested in the craft options rather than the cask.
So I thought i’d join them and went for something called The Anatomy of Taverns, a 6.5% stout from the Newcastle craft brewer Wylam. It was very good but I hoped it would be at £3.25 for a half.
The House of Grain was being well utilised for our early afternoon visit and seems to be a solid enough recent newcomer to the Shrewsbury drinking scene.

Quite a decent set up here, serving ten craft keg and luckily for us a good pint of Salopian Sessionista. The bar was area on the rear left hand side had a copper counter top and a selection of pumpclips displayed on the wall near the spiral staircase that leads up to the first floor. The place was getting very busy on our Friday 9pm visit. The young bar staff were busy focusing on making large orders of cocktails, the music playing was Hip Hop, so quite a good vibe going on. There is a good curry house opposite called Ramna, we found the food and service excellent, so a good double header.

The former Corn Warehouse,a listed building which has been tastefully converted to a craft beer bar,the ground floor is open plan with a mix of seating and some high tables opposite the bar while there is a spiral staircase to a first floor which can be hired for functions.Food is served and was proving popular while at the bar there are two handpumps with a single choice of Salopian Oracle on fine form.
The 10 keg taps include a few not uncommom lagers but at least 7 rotating beer options of which two were key keg and the others top gas pressure.I went for a keg Fyne Scoffer which delivered a tasty half as part of a crawl visit and I felt "on trend" having visited.
If you want something a little out of the ordinary on the beer front (at a price !) this place is worth a visit but it won't sit happily with pub traditionalists.
