Blue Scrumpy left this review about Indian Brewery

I'd passed this place on a Saturday lunchtime visit to Hockley earlier this year, when it had been heaving. I vowed to return at the time and finally made it back yesterday evening. However, this was a far quieter Monday evening.

The 3 bar staff looked a little bored and fairly uninterested. The one guy tried to tell me something about the beer selection, which was listed on a blackboard near the entrance. But I couldn't understand him at first. It soon became apparent that one of the two cask ales listed was off, when I attempted to order it. One of their 5 or 6 craft beers was also off. As such, I chose the solitary remaining real ale, which was the Indian Brewery IPA. Most of the craft beers were also their own.

The interior is quite interesting, with plenty of references to India. Indian food is served from an open kitchen at the far left-hand side and it smelt very appealing. That was more than I could say about the IPA, which was fairly insipid.

I'd hoped for much more from this place, but it really did not live up to my expectations. So, it wasn't long until we upped sticks and headed to a tried and tested establishment that is one of our favourites in the city - the Wellington.

As noted, it is situated under the railway arches on Snow Hill Station. Not much extra I can add to previous review. The 3 cask ale taps I couldn't see but the 15 Crafty Taps are along the wall to the window side of the bar. Only 5 of the taps seemed to be on and the 3 cask ales were and were fine. Very pleasant smell of Indian food, if you like that sort of thing.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Indian Brewery

The original small bar housed in one of the Snow Hill railway arches has now expanded into the next-door unit which now forms more of a dining area. Basic, canteen-style furniture and limited decor mostly comprising (unsurprisingly) breweriana and Bollywood posters. 'Street food' menu offered. Total of 15 taps on a blocked-off archway behind the counter, seeming to offer six of their own (cask) beers and nine craft keg guests, although the exact mix wasn't clear. Anyway, I went for one of their four regular cask beers, the Indian Summer pale ale (£3.40) which was refreshing on a warm early summer evening.
