Well described by others, below, this former butcher’s shop doesn’t really have the feel of a ‘normal’ micro due to the over loud music and white bar back tiles that are more reminiscent of a public toilet than a purveyor of fines ales. There was one craft and around 8 or 9 keg beers. The crowd was also loud when we arrived but I didn’t feel we were being hectored, and things settled down to a quiet roar. I had Sixpenny Ale which was in superb condition. It is half micro, half European bar, but it does have a certain charm which will tempt me back next time I’m here.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Butcher's Dog

Micro-pub, with just a limited amount of seating around the compact counter (although there is also signage indicating an upstairs room too). Four cask and ten keg beer taps on the bar-back, with all but two on and offering an excellent selection in a wide range of styles. However, my attention was caught by the crafty Brew by Numbers 07|07 Orange Witbier (£2.50, half) which proved an excellent choice on a warm Spring day. With a friendly and engaging landlord, this one is well worth seeking out.

The arrival of the first JD Wetherspoon and the first micro pub in Wimborne a few years ago seemed to trigger a change which over time has seen this town transition from a mediocre pub crawl prospect to one of East Dorset’s most reliable beer towns, with two micro breweries now in operation and this place – a second micro pub – complimenting the existing stock. Opening in September 2016 in a former charity shop, this place is even more ‘micro’ than the Taphouse, Seating is limited to a single fixed seat in the front window serving the pub’s only table with the help of a few low stools, a table-less pew next to the bar and a few high stools dotted along the counter and a drinking ledge. There’s not all that much standing room either, but as with all micro pubs, that’s all part of the process and getting chatting to the staff and regulars couldn’t be easier. The servery is on the right hand wall and is flanked by a large beer board which lists all of the cask and keg options. The front windows are obscured, with the pub’s logo of a dog and bottle picked out, whilst there is another dog displayed on the left hand wall, this time used to illustrate various different beer styles. Menus list wine and bottled beer options, should the main board hold nothing of appeal. Unbeknown to me, there is a further seating area upstairs with extra tables and lots of low stools, which will no doubt help ease the congestion around the bar area at peak times.
All beer is served via taps mounted on the bar back – a sure sign of a place’s craft credentials. There were four cask ales available on our Saturday afternoon visit – Electric Bear Red Bear, Tiny Rebel Fubar, Wild Weather Black Night and Siren Undercurrent – whilst eight keg options covered a range of bases including craft staples from the likes of Wiper and True, Kernel and Beavertown, two German Lagers, a Weissebier and a cider. I had a pint of the Black Night which was rich and warming whilst my Dad enjoyed a fresh pint of the Undercurrent. The friendly barman was extremely helpful and offered to make a very tasty soft drink ‘cocktail’ option for the driver in our group – a nice touch and an area that I feel a lot of pubs overlook.
I liked this place, which I thought added something a bit different to the town’s drinking scene. The service was top notch, the beer was very good and there was a good buzz throughout our visit. My only reservation is that I found it very difficult to settle down and get comfortable here, although the first floor overspill area may well have solved this problem had I been observant enough to notice it. It’s still early days here and I'll be interested to see how things bed down, but the signs are certainly encouraging.
