Long thin shop conversion with the counter at back raised up like some altar to craft. 26 taps on the back wall with a hard to read angled thin blackboard above each. Luckily they’d just had a Kirkstall Tap takeover and 10 of their beers were on , so familiar ground if not dispense. Usual eclectic furniture for these places. It was fairly quiet when I visited so didn’t suffer the old man invisibility that Will attracted.

After our abortive visit to Puzzles, it was a pleasant change to find a well-trained and motivated server dealing efficiently with a crowd of waiting drinkers - though it has to be said that when it was our turn, she ignored me (£20 note in hand, anticipatory expression on face, trying to make eye contact) and went to my better-looking friend who was merely looking up at the list of beers behind the bar.

This is a craft beer keg palace with about 20 taps in the bar back, each with the name of the beer and the prices for a growler and for 2/3rds of a pint, a half and a third all listed. My only grouch about this arrangement (and of course there has to be a grouch) is that it is difficult to read the display because the writing is on a slant - like a shelf of books that have toppled over. In addition, there is no mention of the beer styles or characteristics. Because the server's back was to us while she was pouring, it was not possible to question her about this until she returned to the counter. Leaving these niggles aside, we were served relatively quickly and the beer was not too gassy or cold.

We went and sat in the small drinking area at the front of the pub and enjoyed our beers in the late afternoon sun. I wouldn't mind coming back here next time we're in Peterborough, though another time perhaps I'll have a third rather than a half of the 9% double IPA.

Located in the best part of the city opposite the parish church and close to the cathederal, the shop frontage of the micro leads to a seating area down one step with the bar raised at the rear up another step.Internally there is some exposed brickwork, false doors, and some eclectic furniture with upturned tuns,it's modern and hip.The star of the show is the beer from 22 wall mounted taps. The friendly barman was chatty on a quiet lunchtime visit and said that most of the taps are key keg ,with just two nitro dispensers on my trip. The selection is shown by sideways thin boards above each tap ,which meant cricking your neck to see whats on,although lots of advice is freely given. The brewers on tap during my visit included Siren Craft,Magic Rock (2),Pig &Porter,Ansbach & Hobday,Weird Beird (2),Hammerton,Elusive,Gyle 59 and Outstanding with 4 taps for continental beers and four not being used on my trip.Ale is served by the schooner, half and third with no pints, and the ABV's were mainly above 4%,with some pokey stuff as well.A variety of styles was on offer, with several dark choices. My Weird Beird Mariana Trench (schooner £3.20 =£4.80pp) was terrific ,best ale I had on a short crawl .
It's the sort of place that could easily been in Hackney Wick with prices to match,it's at the cutting edge of the beer revolution and has the feel of a micro pub save the presence of old school CAMRA types. Not everyone will feel comfortable here, but for me this is an unmissable treat if you find yourself in Peterborough.I will be back !
