Will Larter left this review about The Gas Tap

This micropub in a former shop has been accurately described by Ray below. At a quiet time of the week, as many people informed me, it was not unreasonable that there were just two beers on the stillage here. Beers are jacketed, with a cooling system attached, and my half of Three Castles Mocha Mild was in good condition. As Ray has commented below, there's a rather casual and untidy look to this place, which was exacerbated for me by the list of hours on a blackboard in the window: Wednesdays are now 4pm rather than 3pm (as per WhatPub and Facebook). The owner turned up just after the stated time, parking his car on a double yellow line and swapping some empty pins and firkins with someone who was waiting for him, then leaving the car there while he served me and swept the floor. To be fair he also spent a bit of time having a chat with me, but I also had to fit in a visit to the Boat Inn, which also opens at 4, before catching my train at 4:30, so our time was inevitably limited. I know it would be frustrating to open at midday and serve no one at all for several hours, but there were people drinking in the Anne of Cleves, the Half Moon and the Crown before 3pm; if you're not open, people won't come.

The photo on the wall behind the bar area, depicts this micropub and the space next door, originally trading as a haberdashery store. Both units have the rather interesting bow shaped windows at the entrances. The pub was recently a sandwich shop, about two years ago.
The Gas Tap opens at 2pm on a Saturday, which I think is quite late in the day.
The interior has a small front room with a counter in the back right hand corner, which had one keg serving Adnam's lager. Their cask ales was served from stillage along the left hand wall. There was a small storage area out the back, which was untidy and wouldn't take much of an effort to tidy it up. Further into the corner you can find the loo.
Five ales to choose from, so I went for the Brewsters Hophead, which was on the turn, so my next choice was the Market Harborough Super Hop, which was ok, but slightly tired and flat. The further ales were two from Mr Grundy Derby and a local beer brewed by a local science teacher who popped into the pub and announced himself as the proud brewer of his Beardy Monkey Melton Ginger Ale, which wasn't to my taste. Oh dear I wasn't having a good visit.
