A marvellous micro which has made the best of the long, narrow, presumably ex shop space creating a cosy and comfortable boozer. There's even an outdoor drinking area at the back.
The ethos here is unashamedly focused on conversation, in the best micro tradition, with seating arranged to encourage chat and no musical or televisual interruptions.
The welcome was warm from the charming barmaid who did a good job on bringing people together, offering tasters and joining us for a swift half of something special.
It's old school and beers are displayed on a blackboard offering on our visit: Purple Moose Glaslyn, Freedom 4 Lager, Dancing Duck 22 and Blue Monkey Chocolate Stout on cask with Black Storm Eagerness for Wise Conversation and Wilde Childe 4 Dimensional Manifold on keg. Cider also featured and all the cask ales are served on gravity from a small room behind the bar.
This is the pub of choice in Burton for me.

I'm leaning toward Bucking Fastards camp on this one, couldnt really fault it on a Saturday lunchtime, great beer , chatty landlord and customers. Had Blue Monkey Ape Ale and Heritage P2, both on cask and very good, handy for the station so a winner for me.

Listed in the 2020 GBG ,this is an interesting shop conversion with lots of wrought iron decoration, modern and subtle drop down lighting and a row of pews along each side with traditional tables and stools, which helps conversation between punters flow naturally. The raised serving area has a seperate cold room for the stillage, while further back a corridor leads to the loos and a small beer garden.
The young barman explaining that there is a sister micro in Swadlincote and there are plans for another opening in Burton, encouraging in these Covid times. He also played his part in getting conversation moving, and some very useful curry information,as well as good gossip about other boozers in Burton, was gathered from him and other customers.
The ale selection is eclectic ,expect 4 on although the "up next list" may come in the play as long as conditioning is felt fine.On entering the ale choice was Potbelly Hedonism,Tiny Rebel Five Dollar Shake (NBSS 2.5 but coming to an end),4T Stout Detectives (NBSS 4.5) and Blue Monkey MPA (NBSS 4.5,off the "up next "list.)There was also an excellent North Brewing Transmission IPA available in cans as a takeout to the dry curry house close by next to the Coopers.Besides ale there are ciders and some key keg beer, plus interesting infused spirits such as Titanic Plum Porter gin.

With ale quality this high, and a great micro atmosphere, this is the pub of choice close to Burton station.Dont miss out when in town.
