Tris C left this review about Toby Carvery Snaresbrook

A former haunt of Winston Churchill and Henry Irving, this was once a coaching inn formerly called the [Spread] Eagle, dating from the 17th century, rebuilt in the 18th; it’s also just up the road from grim Snaresbrook Crown Court, so some diners may come here for a final meal prior to sentencing as this is now a Toby carvery, the name a residual nod to Toby bitter, created by Hoare’s in 1915, prior to acquisition by Charrington’s around 1933.
This is a grand building with substantial car park to the right, accommodation provided by an adjacent Travelodge. Up a few steps to the entrance and into a rather plush, modern affair geared mainly for dining unsurprisingly. As I was confronted by a sign reading ‘Wait Here To Be Seated’, I decided not to bother and didn’t really fancy sitting at the bar, not that I even got to see what was on offer before departing; with the Duke round the coroner, I’ll leave this one to the condemned.
