Over 5 years on from the last review, we called by here yesterday on the off chance it might be open. The tiny building still has plenty of Good Beer Guide stickers on the walls, but looks as if it hasn't been used for some time. I assume that seating used to be outside next to the bicycle racks.

Whilst the Brightwater Brewery is still very much a going concern, I'm not sure if this bar will ever re-open again. I did contact them in advance by social media to check opening times, but didn't receive any response. As such, I'm really not sure whether the bar is still open or not. For now, it seems not.

Called here yesterday, and despite a sign in the window saying open at 3pm,it wasn't. Someone did turn up at 3:15 and upon enquiry I was told they would be ready to open in half an hour, obviously they have a laid back policy toward opening hours here. I couldn't hang around so will have to wait to next time.

This place brings a whole new dimension to the concept of a micropub. Situated in a former cab office right next to Claygate station, there is no room inside at all for drinkers, just enough for the bar counter, the stillaged beers and one, perhaps two if thin, persons, being served. The pub is claiming to be the smallest in the country and researching if it might be the smallest in the world. Seating is outside at around half a dozen tables. The pub operates as the tap for the locally based Brightwater Brewery and runs with either two or three of their brews at a time. There is an occasional guest policy, demonstrated by the pump clips behind the bar which included a couple from Surrey Hills plus another I didn't note. Today offered two, Citra (£3.60) and Little Nipper. There are also snacks such as crisps, scratchings and nuts plus drink options in small bottles of wine, a boxed cider and a selection of soft drinks which took me back, including dandelion and burdock.
The area behind the counter contains mugs and tea towels for sale as well as mini 5L kegs and plastic take out containers. There are also a selection of cards for sale.
It really is a quite unique experience, I enjoyed my visit here even if the outside drinking requires plastic by default, the service was friendly and informative, the clientele all well behaved and mature, all bar one lady on the wine were on the proper beer. Recommended if only for a curiosity stop, not sure I'd recommend a session though, I have no idea what the arrangements are regarding toilets! Not sure if there are any on the platform proper or in the adjacent car park.
Hours are limited and currently due to the outdoor only seating, weather dependent. They hope to get permission for an awning and patio heaters for the colder months. Closed Monday to Wednesday, Friday 3-10, Sat 11-10 and Sunday 12-9 (variable). They may also close if too quiet.
