Yet another branch of the ever expanding Loungers chain, this one is built in to part of the Curzon Cinema building and the décor has been cleverly designed to complement the cinema with various Art Deco touches and an extensive display of projection equipment and such like in the glass fronted bar counter. Even the burgundy wall covering is of a similar appearance to the metal cladding used in the cinema auditorium. Overall I found it quite cosy and it is certainly better than the bare concrete used in some of their other recent openings.

The pub is spread over two floors with the décor being broadly similar in each. Downstairs there is an old wood strip floor and some old fashioned floral wall paper at the front. A number of chandeliers provide the lighting and there are numerous black and white portrait photographs and mirrors around the walls. Upstairs there is also a snug area with a couple of old sofas and a small outside terrace for the warmer weather. There were also quite a few very young children up here on a recent Sunday afternoon visit, and the presence of a number of games and such like is perhaps designed to encourage this.

The menu offered a good selection of dishes divided in to sections such as brunch, mains, tapas and burgers. If you were after a main meal though, the mains section was limited to five or so options, and of these, my first choice of smoked salmon fishcakes had unfortunately sold out. Prices were mostly in the £9 - £10 range, and my second choice of pulled pork burger with barbeque sauce, fries and slaw was a decent and tasty dish, although quite why the pulled pork had been reformed in to a burger giving it a somewhat mushy texture, I’m not sure. At £9.75 it was perhaps priced a little ambitiously, but I quite enjoyed it and would happily have it on another occasion. As is often the case in such venues, a selection of cakes was on the bar counter.

Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, just keg Bath Ales Dark Side and their own Cruisers American pale ale. The solitary cider was Stowford Press. Overall, I was quite pleasantly surprised by this, but then perhaps I had low expectations being somewhat disappointed with the last venue of theirs that I visited. The staff need a bit more time to bed in as service at the bar was very slow and they had little idea who’s turn it was next, but this is early days and overall I would say this is a welcome addition to the Clevedon dining scene.
