The Tree Hotel is an Indian Restaurant and Bar, although the bar is more pub like than one would expect. The bar interior is L-shaped with a central serving counter that supports standard and premium keg as well as three hand pumps. The TT Landlord was off, but their Boltmaker was available alongside Butcombe’s seasonal Chris Moose. During my recent Thursday evening visit there were two old couples who were drinking tea who I assumed were staying in the hotel above. There were also a couple of old drinkers who have probably been forced to use here after the recent closure of the Prince of Wales down the lane. This isn’t somewhere I would seek out again, especially as the barman was a rude and miserable git.

Confusing one, a grand if somewhat dilapidated building with no external signage bar that of an Indian restaurant. There is a bar here though to the right of the side entrance, quite large too. Old school cosiness with a number of fabric banquettes, red and cream colour scheme, wall lamps, red curtains. Wooden bar replete with upper. Two casks on, XT3 and Old Hooky (NBSS 2) served up by a be-penguined barman in a Fosters glass and it was pretty clear I was the only one of the minimal lunchtime crowd drinking any. The three codgers also in attendance didn't sound as posh as I'd have imagined the surroundings would have warranted. Felt like it was operating well-below potential, the nearby Prince has the beer and food market sewn up. On exiting I noticed that there is a massive natural beehive which has formed in the grassy mound at the front of the pub, so make a beeline for that (har har).

An imposing Victorian pile sitting as it does upon a raised grass bank on the sleepy Church Way in quaint Iffley Village. This former hotel now doubles as a restaurant and bar, offering both English and Indian cuisines and is run by the same people who have a same-named establishment in Cadmore End, Bucks. Inside is a square-shaped room with a bar residing centre-right, leaving an 'L' occupied by bench seating and tables and chairs. A pervading smell of Indian food stung the nostrils and there were a handful tucking into early evening tiffin. Three handpumps offered two ales: Sharp's Doom Bar and Timothy Taylor Landlord (the third offered Fuller's London Pride but the clip was reversed). Sagres lager was a decent alternative to usual suspects, and a pint and half of said lager along with a half of the Landlord (which was in fine nick) came in at a Roger Moore eyebrow-raising price of £9.60, although a little victory was won with the two halves being served in hi-ball glasses. There's a patio and a two-level garden outside, with the lower level offering some swings and a slide for the little 'uns. A couple of points docked for the ale selection, but they were advertising a forthcoming real ale festival, so that along with the fact that they served a good (half) pint of Landlord, which can be difficult to get right, means it's probably worth combining in a mini crawl along with The Prince of Wales and Isis Farmhouse.
