Another Cotswold village pub with a focus on food. There are 3 rooms, the smallest of which (to the left) is the bar itself. The other two rooms are dining rooms. The village shop can be found just behind the bar. There is a car park and garden to the rear.

The bar has grey wainscotting with bare stone walls on the upper part. Flooring is stone tiles. There was a TV which was switched off, with music playing instead. Despite the focus on dining, most people in were drinkers and were crowded into the small bar.

With the pub's chiller having failed, cask ales were the only option, unless you fancied a bottle. The 3 to choose from were Wye Valley HPA & Bitter & Goff's Jouster (re-badged as Henbrook's Cotswold Best Bitter). I think the restaurant was called Henbrook's. A fourth handpull was unclipped. Beavertown Neck Oil would have been available on keg had the chiller been functional. The cider would have been Cornish Orchards.

A certificate at the rear entrance showed that the pub was a finalist in the 2023 North Cotswold CAMRA Pub of the Year competition and it can still be found in the current Good Beer Guide. Service wasn't the best though. The landlord and a barmaid had been stood at the opposite end of the bar from the handpulls, where we had positioned ourselves. The barmaid disappeared off without serving us, whilst the landlord only stood up to serve us when we started to re-locate to the other end of the bar. WhatPub also says that a CAMRA discount is offered, but it certainly wasn't on this occasion.

I had booked a meal here for the last day of my holiday, as they have a pie night on Sundays. They said they could do me a vegan steak and ale pie, with jackfruit replacing the dead animal. In the event, as I found when cutting into my pie, the jackfruit had failed to materialise, and I had a carrot and mint pie. The beer, brewed for this pub by Goffs, wasn't much better. The prices were top notch though. Such a pretty pub, pleasantly set out, but a restaurant that allows dogs? I didn't realise until a family group turned up and started giving their two mutts treats at the table. I remembered to pay for my meal before dashing for the door, but it was close.

Two real ales on - Wye Valley Bitter and one I failed to notice properly.

All immaterial anyway. Its open at 10am but at 10:06am, i could only convince the bar man to sell me a cup of tea. To be fair, I'd been walking since 7:30am.

Nice looking pub but I will have to come back to experience it properly.
