This is a fairly new Spoons having opened in Spring 2014. Inside it's a large modern area with an upstairs room that I didn't investigate. The decor and furnishing is a cut above the identikit Spoons from the last century. The doors at the rear overlook a river or canal but there is a sign prohibiting taking a drink out there,
The bar has two banks of six hand pumps which weren't really used to full effect as Doom Bore was doubled up, two were unused then there were the two GK Beers, two ciders, Everard's Schlafly Pale Ale, Red Squirrel Jack Black IPA & Legally Blond and Brain's SA.
I went for the Jack Black IPA (£2.49) which was outstanding. This was on the expensive side for a Spoons but the menu showed guests FROM £2.69 which seemed odd. The club food prices were a pound or so more expensive than normal..
The excellent Black IPA enhanced my visit considerably and I would be prepared to drop in again.

ORIGINAL REVIEW April 2014
Stortford's first 'spoons housed in a new build development ,and only recently opened. It is situated at the terminus of the River Stort Navigation, and the outside seating offers good views of the boating traffic, including a trip boat operating from the wharf opposite. The interior is starkly modern with much use of high tables ,along one wall resembling booths in an American diner. It's open plan while upstairs there are loos and a more traditional seating area with lots of seating booths and an unusual drinking (and dining) shelf running above the ballustrade to the stairs.Up here you can see into the kitchen, with lots of alarms buzzing as the reheated food reaches critical temperature.
There are two banks of six handpumps, the left hand side featuring mainly the regular dross, namely GK Abbott,Ruddles Best,London Pride ,Doom Bar,Adnams Broadside with a single guest in Roosters YPA,while the bank to the right feature the guests which on my trip were three interesting brews "coming soon" (arghhhhhh... ),Batemans XXXB,GK George and the Flagon, and Titanic White Star (£2.49 and in very poor condition, cloudy and only just drinkable). The long wait for service was an indication that staff have not weathered in yet,and that may have been the reason for the shocking pint.I will reserve judgement until the place has been up and running for a while ,but my first impression is that the addition of this 'spoons does not raise the general standard of boozers in the town centre.

UPDATE
Glad to report that ale quality on my revisit was much better and the range of guests both in style and strength was very good.Only three dull regulars (GK Abbott,Ruddles Best ,Doom Bar) with three from Saffron Brewery,an International festival ale and two from Red Squirrel including a very good Redtail Citra, although a noteable short pint. However I will live with that given the improvement and therefore an upgrade from me.Given the paucity in town ,probably one of the better places for real ale.
