A large Spoons rip-off (presumably by Stonegate) in a magnificent room, complete with glazed cupola overhead and artistic horse sculptures. Sadly it is completely lacking in atmosphere, not helped by the crap music and echoing interior (one of Tim's carpets would have been good) and general lack of customers. There is however an interesting board room behind the bar, which would be good for a group, and a courtyard area behind. On handpump were London Pride, Courage Best, Old Golden Hen and two Christmas ales on their last legs.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Brenchley

Imposing 'Spoons-a-like banking hall conversion, with a central dome and a brightly-lit bar along the back wall (featuring a large display of wine bottles of shelves) and a small 'board room' beyond. Modern furniture and restrained decor. Compact patio area to the rear. Good choice of drinks and a reasonably-priced menu - in many ways similar to the Muggleton Inn directly opposite but all aimed (very) slightly more upmarket. Two banks of three handpumps on the counter, with Pride, Spitfire, Courage Best, Trooper and two porters - Titanic Plum and Caledonian Poltergeist (a very reasonable £2.59) available on this visit. Overall, it seems slightly cavernous so one wonders whether an island bar might have been a better option.

Initial feelings on entering were of a high ceilinged basic barn but on settling down with my pint I realised that there are some decent architectural features. It is a former bank and with the grandeur that goes with it, superb domed ceiling light with yet further flat versions over the rear wall bar. Fancy cornices and gold coloured fluted columns, third height stained panelling to the walls. The middle of the pub has a square area directly under the domed rooflight which is surrounded by banquettes and has a tree in the middle. Otherwise mixed seating with loads of high tables.
If you walked in blindfolded you would think you were in a 'spoons, it has that feel, and on my visit the same ambience. Garden to the rear (unvisited, likely to be a smokers' den)
Two banks of ales, Pride, Shepherd Neame Amber Ale, branded Maidstone United Ale, Spitfire, Courage Best and Britannia Navigation. Basic quick fix food served cheaply.
Great building, poorly converted and not used to it's obvious advantages.
