CLOSED Ashton pub that was rebuilt in it's present form inn 1887 and was one of 39 pubs within a quarter of a mile in this area.The pub was situated across the road from the armoury and the drill hall of the Volunteer Regiment which gave rise to the pubs name. The pub was described as unattractive,did little trade and was only used by Territorial Army Officers. The pub is now a funeral directors
