E TA left this review about Royal Oak

A run-down village pub which is rarely open, even during its advertised hours. There is a small car park which also houses the village recycling bins, and a nice garden with pleasant views out across the countryside. Inside, it is a time-warp though not in a nostalgic, sentimental way – it just hasn’t been decorated for a while. The single L-shaped bar is formed from three original rooms, and all 3 fireplaces have been retained. The long end has a pleasant open fire, very much appreciated at this time of year, and there is a woodburner diagonally opposite. Thee is a skittle alley at the back, they show rugby on the small TV and they host occasional events including quiz nights. Only one ale on among the 4 handpumps on the bar, Palmer's Copper, which was in sub-optimal condition. Two keg ciders were also available. The landlady was a bit odd. Given its remoteness, lack of good quality ale and unpredictable opening times it’s not worth seeking out given that there is so much choice in this area, but if you happen to be passing when it’s open, it’s worth dropping in for refreshments.
