Beer Emporium is a cellar bar with flagstone floor throughout and two long vaults that run side by side. On the right side is a bar that runs down the right side facing seating down the left. On the left side is seating and a kitchen is found further left. Premium keg is available and the two handpumps were unused. I found the service to be terse, in fact the young barman was a bit of a nobhead. I’m not a massive fan of cellar bars, they always remind me of the vampire drinking dens in Blade. To be honest, if I had to spend an extended period in here I wouldn’t grumble if Wesley Snipes ran in and cut off my head.

I do love a cellar bar. Initially greeted by a bar but the action is down a couple of flights of stairs, with a lift available should you need it. A cavernous vaulted ceiling. Very atmospheric. Mainly long wooden tables but a couple of leather sofas for more comfortable seating.

Extensive collection of bottles and hand pulls but £8.80 for a 300ml St Bernardus 12 is taking the mick a bit.

ORIGINAL REVIEW November 2014
A very thorough review from Blackthorn doesn't need much from me,you enter into a bottle shop with produce neatly stacked behind a counter,so proceed down the flight of stairs to find the pub.The brickwork down there has been expertly cleaned ,the lighting was clever and the open plan kitchen on view gave a modern feel to the place. It was quiet on our Friday afternoon visit, yet i did wonder how the acoustics would change with a big crowd in.Clearly committed to offering a wide range of real ale ,there were 12 handpumps (not all working) offering Mallinson's Baton Rouge and US MILD (pretty good ),Five Sisters Red Ale,Butcombe Haka,Durham Black Velvet and Milestone Hoptimus while there were intersting keg options from 8 taps. This was only a short crawl visit but I would most definitely call in again to see what this GBG listed pub had on offer.

UPDATE
A revisit was rewarded by an outstanding range of real ale from some leading microbrewers and my Blue Monkey 99 Red Baboons was spot on.On a busy Thursday evening after an England football group stage victory (rare event !),the bar was an oasis of calm and it would have been very tempting to sample a lot of their wares. An upgrade from me,this might well be route 1 next time I'm on King Street.
