Jeff White left this review about The Britannia Inn & Restaurant

In December 2012 Kate & Jeff re-launched ‘The Britannia’ after a huge refurbishment and have received excellent reviews for both the design and decor as well as for their high quality food offering.
As a traditional Devon country Inn, their menu caters for all tastes and occasions, ranging from simple ciabatta sandwiches and classic pub dishes like home-made steak & kidney pie, to more complex flavours, such as pan fried scallops with black pudding - enough to tempt any foodie!

The Restaurant within ‘The Britannia’ in Knowle Village, (which is probably the largest function room/restaurant in this area, seating 40) is near historic Budleigh Salterton in beautiful Devon.
As chef, Kate, prepares and cooks fresh food on the premises using quality ingredients, which are local where possible - with fresh fish, beef and lamb from local Devon farms, venison from two local estates, cream and free range, new laid eggs from the local farms, delivered daily, Kate strives to produce the very best results from the pick of local Devon produce.

Seasonal speciality dishes in include: venison and pheasant.
Kate & Jeff ask the question. “Why should we be different?
“As a Pub Restaurant we believe it is important for us to provide the sort of things we like to eat and drink when we go out - and that do not cost a fortune. Simple traditional dishes well cooked and stylishly presented. Ales perfect in every way. Service will be offered by cheerful staff, who are pleasant and helpful, with the sole aim to make your visit a memorable one – for the right reasons!
Our real ales at the moment are ‘Otter’ and ‘Doom Bar’ but we hope to introduce ‘Dartmoor Jail’ very soon.
'Sophisticated simplicity' is probably a good description of our philosophy, as we are passionate about providing honestly good West Country food & ales, with excellent customer service at ‘The Britannia’”

Soup Dragon left this review about

A bizarrely nice exterior to the detached pub, it looks like an Austrian cottage - with its gables and flowers - it just needs the Von Trapp family singers! It is in cream and brick and also has the name Britannia Inn outside.

The interior is open plan, with a small side room that had TV. The is a clear dining and bar area. The decor has white walls with lots of pictures and other memorabilia that are mainly horse related. The seating did have that leather chair sofa mix, not quite to my taste. Service was fine and the place busy with a mixed clientele - though there were many locals in.

The Beer; usual tap tosh, with Bass, Otter Ale, St Austell Tribute and Courage The Dogs Bite on handpull. The tribute was fine. The chap went into the back to pour the real ales. For us Midlanders and for those up north, the beer looks flat here, but isnt!

Sofas apart, i liked the place. A nice community bar, worthy of a revist
