Steve Segar left this review about Chapelford Farm

Saturday 05/01/13 Party of 4. This is a fairly new establishment having been there for about 8 months. It is a massive place but the only pub on a large new estate. We arrived at 6pm and were steered to a table. They have info on the ordering mechanism on the table with the menu, which has normal pub favourites. There is also a large carvery selection and we all went for this. You have to queue at one till to purchase your carvery tickets/order but it is a food only till and although you can lodge your credit card here you cannot order your drinks. So this meant stepping one yard to the right and then queuing for drinks. As stated before this is a very large establishment and they only had two bar staff on. At the time I got there I had to wait about 10 minutes but by the time we had finished our main meal the bar was six deep and getting drinks was taking so long that we didn't bother having a refill. They need to create a better system here.
So the carvery meal was the normal gammon, beef and turkey and we found the ham to be tasty, the turkey to be succulent and the beef was totally bland! No taste whatsoever. The boiled potatoes were bullets but the roast and mash were very nice. The veg was different from normal and I have never seen mushy peas on a carvery before but hey-ho! The carrots were also rock hard and this detracted from the standard of the whole meal. Also the prices are £7.75 for a large plate and £5.75 for a small plate and there are far better quality carvery meals available in the local area for a far cheaper price.
One saving grace were the deserts which were enormous (and I mean ENORMOUS) and very reasonable priced for what you got. (I had a vanilla slice that was the size of big tissue box (honestly)). Their cakes and gateaux's stand about 8 inches high and the slice sizes are big for a price between £4 and £6)
However, the desert did not save the mark as the place is large and characterless, there is little ambiance and when crowded the only atmosphere is people shouting their conversations.
We were disappointed for our first visit and so won't be rushing back there or if we do maybe select a quieter night or just return to our trusted carveries for nicer food at a cheaper price.
