‘Historic inn’ reads various blurbs but in reality it’s been thoroughly modernised. Split between two rooms (dining to left, main bar to right) and a long narrow front garden. The recent makeover is at least fairly tasteful, the bar room is done out in a two-tone blue colour scheme, light wood fittings and a couple of port hole interior windows. The eye is mainly caught by a stone fireplace with a ship's wheel off to the side. Three pumps with two Gower ales on, Gold (NBSS 3) and Power (3.5) which was a pleasant surprise. Beer flying out of the pumps on a sunny day and it felt like we’d just missed the late lunchtime rush as well. So no complaints from me, did a good job. 6.5

This is a detached pub, with patio area, which has been here, as a pub, at least since the later Victorian period. The pub has a large, original building, with several extensions. It is in white render, with a touch of black. Other than the porch, the only other features of this two-storey building are the round 'port-hole' windows. The interior has three rooms, but the 'Saloon Deck Bar and the rear restaurant were closed at our early visit. The bar we were in is a smaller room, with pool and darts that has cream walls and ceiling, with a stone chimney and burner fire. The TV had daytime programmes on and there are a few hanging jugs, a ship's wheel feature and a few things on the walls. The food menu was basic, but decently priced and tasted fine. The service was fine and the place busy, mainly with holiday-makers. The music was general and at a decent level. Beer; usual tap stuff with an OK-ish Hancock's HB on handpull. A run-of-the-mill tourist pub really, that at least does a real ale.
