The David Macbeth Moir is named after the locally born Physician and Author of which there is a statue of the man by the stone bridge over the river Esk.Found this one a refreshing change from numerous featureless and characterless Wetherspoons scattered around, and must agree with JAQPTIO that the art deco is most impressive.

This is a cinema conversion that is at least recognisable as such. You enter through the tiled cinema foyer to get to the main bar area on the right which is a large high ceilinged rectangular room with some enormous lampshades and the usual furnishings.
The ten hand pumps had two unused, one available soon, 3 festival ciders, Broughton Greenmantle & Merlin, Kelburn Cart Blanche and Strathaven 500. Like most Scottish Spoons visited this was a reasonable choice of Scottish beers, only the dross was missing. I went for the Cart Blanche (£2.19) to wash down a breakfast and it was in good nick.
I thought this was a decent Spoons.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The David Macbeth Moir (JD Wetherspoon)

Impressive Art Deco cinema (later bingo hall) conversion. Attractive lanterns in the spacious bar, and interesting mussel sculpture in the entrance hall. Decent selection of real ales from eight of ten handpumps operational when I visited, including a fine pint of March of the Penguins from Williams Bros (£2.05). Well worth seeking out to take a look around. NB - Alcohol not served until 11 am.
