Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Upper George
Slightly tucked away on a side street, this one is more modern inside the partly opened-out and comfortably furnished T-shaped interior than one might expect. Also has a pool room at the back and a patio terrace out front. With two of the three handpumps in operation, I found Black Sheep and a decent Ossett Yorkshire Blonde (£3.00).

A traditional looking pub which has been opened up to some extent, but with remnants of the original layout discernable. Some pleasing features include the Ramsdens windows mentioned in the previous review, and the internal door from the front lobby, which looks like it probably dates to the 1930s too. (There is a blocked door on the left of the building which would have become redundant when the interior was knocked into one space.) Only Tetleys on the bar, and mine was the first of the day; the young lad pulled plenty through in an endeavour to make a decent drink of it, but it still wasn't quite right. A pity, though I didn't make a fuss about it: this would be a pleasant pub in which to stay a while if the beer was reliable.

Old Boots left this review about The Upper George
Old pub updated about 1935 by Ramsdens, then again a few years ago by whatever PubCo now owns it, but some nice deco features remain including some Ramsdens windows and it has a multi room layout to some extent. Just a poor Tetleys on the ale front, plus usual kegs. Big screens available and there's a pool table in a room at the back to one side.
