The village was bypassed by The A66 in 2007. This gives the place a much more genteel feel of this four hundred year old coaching inn. The west side of the hotel used to be a house and is the main bar / lounge area with the hotel in the east side of the former inn. The bar serves 1 real ale and 1 changing beer at the time of visiting. There is seating outside at the front of the building. There is limited parking at the front of the front of the building and more parking about the village. A good starting point for exploration of the Lake District
