Blackthorn _ left this review about The Victoria

A basic no frills boozer in the heart of St Werburghs, it consists of a single U-shaped room wrapped around the bar counter with a small courtyard garden at the front.

Décor wise it’s unremarkable with a red patterned carpet on the floor, dark wood panelling on the lower part of the walls and predominantly cream plasterwork elsewhere with some very pale brown paint on some of the timberwork. Some wallpaper designed to look as though it were made from old newspapers was a bit of a contrast at one end. Seating was a mixture of tall stools, regular chairs, a few arm chairs and an old sofa in in one leg of the “U”, which also had a pool table. A TV was mounted up on one wall, but the volume was off so this was not too intrusive. That said, although I’m not normally a fan of TV’s in pubs it might have helped to drown out the two guys arguing very loudly at the bar about how well one’s car had been repaired by his insurer. His planned approach was to contact his insurance company and declare them to be a “bunch of c****s”, but his companion countered that this would actually make him a “f***ing c***-sucking c***”. The friendly landlord did apologise for the noise as we left, but that was really a case of too little, too late. He should have told them to pipe down long before.

Depsite three pumps on the bar, only one was in use serving Doom Bar. The other had a reversed clip whilst the third appeared unused. The solitary cider was Thatcher’s Gold.
