A good description from Blackthorn, below, which remains extant. This is the first of this chain that I’ve visited which had no real ale on tap, so it was a disappointing experience from that perspective. The staff were agreeable enough though, and it was a pleasant place to sit despite the presence of several young mothers with their children. I wonder whether they’ve peaked, but either way I don’t feel like coming back

A strange mix of old and modern, this has a somewhat unprepossessing entrance consisting of an anonymous door on a corner between various shops in the heart of Bath’s recently redeveloped shopping area. Typically you might expect this to lead to some dodgy night club, and calling itself the Cosy Club doesn’t do much to dispel this myth. Once you’re in and up the open plan wood stairs however, it is not at all what you might expect.
At the top of the stairs is a sort of lobby area, with a number of leather sofa’s and several ornate, low hanging lamps. There was a guy at an entrance desk with a laptop who asked if we had booked, but although food may be a major feature here, you’re certainly welcome to pop in for a drink and there are areas which seem intended for drinking rather than eating, which is more than can be said for many so called pubs.
Beyond this it opens out in to a long room with the bar counter on the left and a long, outside balcony on the right overlooking the square below. There are a number of long, high benches, low tables and stools as well as more conventional tables and chairs. As previously mentioned, the decor is an odd mix. The ceiling is bare concrete, as are the pillars along the front wall and all the ventilation ducting and electrical conduit is clearly visible. On the other hand, there are numerous tassled lamp shades, both hanging from the ceiling and on standard lamps, as well as a couple of stag’s heads and various picture and mirrors giving a somewhat colonial feel. The flooring is polished wood strip.
Beyond this is an area more geared up for dining, with plenty of tables and chairs and “old” oil paintings on the wall, giving the impression of an old hotel dining room. We didn’t check the menu, but it seemed very popular – we would have eaten here, but there was no space available as we had not booked.
The solitary beer on tap was HPA from the Great Western Brewery. There was another pump on the bar but this appeared to have run out. Ciders were Stowford Press and Orchard Pig. All in all, not a bad effort for a new build, and I will certainly return to check out the food.
